An astute technologist inquired as to a elevated CA 27.29 on a male patient
and if it was a true value. After researching that according to the
literature CA 27.29 is fairly specific for breast cancer, we surmised that
we either had a case of mislabeled specimen, false-positive result,
transvestite or male breast cancer. After discussion with the clinician, it
was indeed a male with a history of breast CA, two years prior. ((according
to DSYoung, "Effect of Disease on Clinical Laboratory Tests" it can be
elevated in viral hepatitis, colorectal CA, pancreatic CA, lung CA, Uterine
CA, Prostate CA and cirrhosis.)) (however, I have not been able to verify
the given citation).
Do any participants have experience with CA 27.29 in male breast cancer?
