Some weeks ago I recall a request to the Mailbase for an available assay for
rT3. I didn't make a note of any answers and now I find myself in need of
such an assay. We have an unusual hypothyroid patient who is very difficult
to control with T4 - the TSH remains elevated despite a high dose and an
appropriate serum FT4 result and the T3 is lower than one might expect for
someone on that dose. I am keen to find out whether the patient is
metabolising more T4 than normal to rT3. So, are there any assays out
there?
