I'm unclear what I want to say but it's something like - don't let the
technology get in the way of learning and don't let "blind faith" in some
aspect of ILT blinker us to the obvious.
What problem is a VLE good at solving and is it a problem that my students
have?
Of course the problem might be an institional problem associated with a
perceived need to reduce teaching costs - there's a real conflict here about
balancing quality against cost. Maybe at the end of the day, a half decent
VLE with OK materials and a sympathetic learning facilator might be better
than a lousy teacher but it might be a gamble where students are the
loosers.
Solving students' problems is what any educational technology is about.
Whether A, B or C is using a VLE maybe irrelevant. How an educational
institution is using ILT to support students' learning definitely is
relevant.
If it's a new problem then it might require a new solution or even a new
institution.
VLE's offer new solutions but what was the problem?
