Dear all,
Not a comprehensive list but I started collecting a few URLs for my MEd in
Networked Collaborative Learning that relate to Computer Supported
Collaborative Working and Learning. Under the 'Software' link there are links
to the following:
Electronic discussion software; Evaluating Virtual Learning Environments;
Virtual Learning Environments (vendors); Groupware.

On to other matters, the importance of communication in VLEs and online
learning experiences has been mentioned a number of times in the list,
something that I have long taken an ad hoc interest in. One of the motivations
for taking up the above MEd (although I must admit that I was fairly cynical at
the time that true collaborative learning could be carried out on-line) was to
provide the time and focus to investigate what (if any!) additional learning
outcomes could be derived from VLE platforms compared to traditional distance
or f-2-f learning experiences e.g. reflective learning practices, social
perspective taking, skills in electronic communication etc.
I'm glad to say that my own experiences have shown that a number of key and
employability skills shine through as learning outcomes when the number of
'bells and whistles' are reduced in these VLE platforms and the learners are
encouraged to engage with each other rather than technical wizardry (and even
the tutor?). For those interested, an overview of a small scale ethnographic
research project is available as a paper here:

Hope this is of interest.
Cheers,
Paul.
