Colleagues
We have 4 jobs for Development Officers here at the OU's new Centre for
Assistive Technology and Enabling Research (CATER). We feel that these
are important posts, requiring innovative multi-skilled people who may
not be reached through traditional media. In order to make this
information available to the widest community, I wonder if you would
circulate the material (copied below and attached) to the membership of
your lists?
Many thanks
Robin S

Development Officers
(£20,267 - £26,229)
(Temporary 3 years)
The OU has set up a Centre for Assistive Technology and Enabling
Research (CATER) to provide technical support for disabled students and
staff and to help develop more accessible learning technologies and
curriculum resources.
A new OU Access Centre located in Milton Keynes is due to open in June
2002. This will carry out needs assessments and other services for
disabled OU students and other customers through membership of the
National Federation of Access Centres
We need to recruit four Development Officers to provide needs
assessments and other specialist Access Centre services and to support
CATER's curriculum access development programme.
The ideal candidates will have a combination of skills and experience in
both these areas, though training and development can be provided to
enable candidates to operate effectively in both domains. A good
knowledge of and commitment to the needs of disabled learners in higher
education and strong ICT skills are essential. One of the posts will
require proven experience of supporting students with dyslexia
