Erik,
Excellent idea about filtering the emails. I have been printing some emails
to read more thoroughly at a later date because of time constraints.
I am also concerned that many practicing designers may not feel so
comfortable on this list because of the types of discussion. Many
practicing designers who have been successful for years have not been
introduced to many of the topics we discuss, and it certainly was not a
part of their general education. Just now in the US, design schools are
incorporating design research classes in grad and undergrad coursework, but
it will take several generations for this to fully filter into the
profession. So, many designers are not only learning about general research
methods, they are learning how and where to use research, and researchers,
throughout the design process. This may seem elementary to some of you but
truly, much of the profession in ID is at this level, and mostly because it
was not in their curriculum.
However, this list is for all designers to learn more than they currently
know, and for me to learn what I don't know I don't know!
