Definition process
Greetings.
The project we undertook as a pilot study was based on the use of a
kind of modified Delphi process in which we looked for consensus
among the participants. I think we went 3 rounds in an attempt to
define the word "interaction". Five academics from 3 countries and 3
native languages (all accomplished speakers of English) and well
qualified design thinkers participated in a blind process in which we
hoped a convergence would occur.
Early in the process, one participant raised the issues Ken is
raising now. We decided to let the process remain fluid rather than
historical and referential. In the end we had to force a convergence
which was not a process we particularly liked. One of the problems
was the different design context in which these individuals worked.
We put together a brief report with examples of what happened and
sent it to the participants who remain anonymous to this day.
Since we are constrained from posting a paper to this site, if anyone
would like a copy of the paper they can email me. I will be traveling
for a bit but will catch up with things in a week or two.
Words are messy.
Sharon
