What is expressed in vague terms are the result of dim thoughts.
This is a free translation of a famous Swedish expression: Det dunkelt sagda
är det dunkelt tänkta.
Abstractions are necessary ingredients in most research, whatever the
discipline. But the ability to express the abstract in the most concrete way
possible is an often overlooked competence. Hence the difficulties and
resulting reluctance among practitioners to gain new knowledge from academic
work, which thereby may become partly wasted!
I am working in academia but living among practitioners and this is a
re-occurring theme of discussion.
