Hi Amanda
I'm intrigued - there is a communication problem here clearly
Can you expand on..
What you are actually requesting in your letter to GPs?
What consent you obtain ( ie a standard Access to Medical Record type or
other ...)?
How much you offer for this service?
What range of charges GPs are asking for?
What proportion of practices you are having "difficulties" with
I have no doubt that there may be unreasonable GPs that you come across
but as a GP and LMC member who occasionally has to provide pastoral care
to GPs who are not coping can I suggest that if you feel you are being
treated discouteously or unreasonably you approach your local LMC -
there may be wider problems with the practice they need help with.
The LMC can give advice about how to approach practices most effectively
and can bring to the attention by way of their normal communications to
all local practices any new areas of law or resonsibilities that they
need to be aware of
Mark

I don't know of any change in GP policy Stuart, but I am having
difficulty with some GPs too at present. They are refusing to provide
details from GP notes (not an OH opinion) on their clients so we are
unable to clear them fit for work. This means that Personnel won't
employ. Two have stated that they are not providing cheap OH advice,
which is not what we are asking for. One GP stated that he was going to
charge for a phone call that a colleague had with him in which she
attempted to explain what we needed and that it was a requirement of the
Teachers Regulations.
To quote that great literary character Charlie Brown "Good grief"
