Access to Short-term Breaks by Black Disabled Children and their Families:
identifying and overcoming barriers.
The presentations will highlight findings from three research studies. Ronny
Flynn will focus on messages about access to short breaks gathered from a
Joseph Rowntree Foundation funded review of literature and practice, and
also a local one funded by Barnardo's Midland Region. Pratima Patel will
focus on fieldwork messages from the Barnardo's-funded local study on access
by Bangladeshi and Pakistani families, and also messages from her PhD study
on the experiences of Asian parents with a disabled child. Vijay Patel
interviewed disabled children about their experiences as part of the JRF
study, and will report on messages from this. All presenters will draw out
implications for policy and practice.
