When my grandfather sailed to a Spanish mine near Cordoba, Spain in the
early 20th C, his destination port was Cadiz. In the mid 19th C, coastwise
sailings were a significant transport mode in the UK and on the continent.
It was an accepted journey plan to travel coastwise from a local port in UK
to the jumping off point, a more established trading route to the final port
of destination. My game plan would be to spot the target mines and work
backwards.
My career was transport rather than mining but I hope that the thought may
prove helpful.
