A further thought on the Staffordshire - Spain movement. The transport of
clay from Cornwall to the potteries passed, in part, via Runcorne and thence
by canal to the Stoke area. Our ancestors were often more sophisticated, in
distribution terms, than we realised. Sailings from Falmouth and Plymouth
carried world wide trade and Portugal and Cadiz were merely a step away.
