This is not an answer to the question, but I thought people might be
surprised to know there is actually a "Cahiers du Cinema Japon"--that is,
a version in Japanese that has been published for over a decade here in
Japan (though apparently they will stop it, more because the editors are
tired than because it is doing badly). It does include some of the French
articles from Cahiers translated into Japanese, but most of it is
independent of the French journal with a lot of new articles in Japanese.
It has been important in introducing a lot of European cinema to Japan
(in France, directors like Assayas and Desplechin). While it has only a
few articles on Japanese film, they are overwhelmingly about Kurosawa
Kiyoshi and Aoyama Shinji (both of whom also write for the journal).
Their Japanese home page is:

Just wanted to mention it.
