medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
We were discussing crusades and sainthood in a class today, when I
suddenly reaslized I didn't know of any example of a "crusading saint"
except St Louis IX of France. I thought it might be interesting to ask if
anyone knows of other examples of individuals for whom crusading was an
ESSENTIAL part of their reputation for sanctity? If specifically crusading
saints are as rare as it seems to me at first glance, perhaps that raises
some interesting questions.
