medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
This story is told by Lorenzo Ghiberti in the early 15th century of
Master Gusmin, a goldsmith who worked for Louis, the duke of Anjou,
in the late 14th century in the ambiance of the splendid Valois
courts. Ghiberti holds up Master Gusmin as a model of his
profession, his work being perfect in every respect, save that his
figures were a little short. Too bad they were all melted down to
finance the 100 Years War. I'm not absolutely sure, but you might
be able to find a translation of Ghiberti's text in Creighton E.
