medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
How are these things determined? Long-standing cult? Some decree, as with
recent selections to be honored as doctors of the church? I ask this in
part because Rosemary Ellen Guilley's The Encyclopedia of the Saints (Facts
on File, 2001) - which I am reviewing - lists neither Dennis or
Martin. Instead she lists Joan of Arc, Therese of Lisieux & Our Lady of
the Assumption. Allowing for change over time, do some patrons fall out of
favor or get set aside?
