METROPOLITAN BOROUGH OF BURY CULTURAL SERVICES Outreach Worker:
Everbody's Reading (Temporary Part Time) Salary £9,884 We are seeking an
enthusiastic temporary part-time outreach worker to support and develop the
Everybody's Reading/Reading Lifelines project. This project is to develop &
encourage the reading habits of 16 - 25 year olds, particularly in the East
Bury area, using ICT & other innovative techniques. By the end of the
project the successful candidate will be required to demonstrate a
significant increase in library usage by the target group. The post is part
of a regional project funded by DCMS/Wolfson. An initial nine-month
contract is on offer with possible extensions subject to external funding.
In the event of the post being filled on a permanent basis, the successful
applicant will, subject to satisfactory performance in the post, be offered
the post on a permanent basis. Reporting to the Housebound & Special
Services Librarian, you will normally be based at Topping Fold Library &
Community Centre with some work at other locations throughout the Borough.
Hours of work are on the basis of 18.50 per week. A flexible approach will
be needed, as it will be necessary to adapt working practices to the needs
of the project e.g. evenings, Saturdays & Sundays and in accordance with
service requirements. Flexi-time scheme in operation. You will possess: 4
GCSEs grade A-C (to include English & Mathematics) Experience of working
with young people e.g. in libraries, in youth clubs or schools. ICT skills
and be competent in the use of various packages e.g. Windows applications,
Office, e-mail and Internet. The ability to communicate effectively verbally
and in writing to research, devise, deliver & organise promotional
activities, presentations and training sessions. Knowledge of initiatives in
reader development. The ability to be self motivated to organise and
prioritise work. Desirable job requirements include: Recognised
qualification in librarianship, teaching or youth work, experience of
teaching or training young people, knowledge of East Bury & the diverse
local community and the differing values of the organisations for the
promotion of socially excluded groups. This post carries an Authorised
