Dear Allen,

Now it's my time to be presumptuos (wow!) and, with the certain and serene
assumption that anybody on this forum agrees, I do imagine that, yes, we
certainly forgive you for this brief and, in my humble opinion, needed
digression. In fact, since this forum is a beautiful and resourceful exchange
arena for people doing their share to understand a bit more of our planet, with
humble and passionate attitudes, it is, first of all, directed and created by
human beings. They are scientist, researchers, famous scholars, first-year phd
students, but, before reaching their offices, computers and field assignments,
they wake up as People. Scientist could be nothing, without being women and men
first. And women and men, I am told, have got mind, passions, feelings and,
indeed, fears and weaknesses. In front of what we have so helplessly witnessed,
anything, absolutely anything, comes second - and by a good distance.
Science (and anything else, for that matter) comes better when the heart is
warmed up.
And, now, with a new idea of what the world we work for looks like and with the
understanding that a lot has to be understood anew, back to geology, our
choice.
With warmest regards to all,
Umberto
