medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Richard
indeed it is. It was edited by Jean Duvernoy in 1965, under the title:
Le registre d'inquisition de Jacques Fournier, évêque de Pamiers (1318-1325)
(Toulouse: Privat, 1965), 3 vols.
This is the edition that Ladurie used to write Montaillou (and we've all
been using since); note that Duvernoy also supplied a few later
'Corrections' (Toulouse: Privat, 1972). These are not as substantial as
Ladurie would appear to indicate in his slightly snotty introduction.
Note also that Duvernoy translated the entire register into modern French,
using the same title, but published thus - Paris: Mouton, 1978. The French
edition is worth consulting as well, as the footnotes and additional
comments differ from the Latin edition.
Also available in both Latin and French is the register of GEoffroy d'Ablis,
the inquisitor who preceded Fournier by some 10 years in the same region
(some deponents appear in both registers). This has been edited by Annette
Pales-Gobilliard, L'Inquisiteur Geoffroy d'Ablis et les cathares du Comté de
Foix (1308-09) (Paris: CNRS, 1984). Pales-Gobilliard is currently bringing
out an edition of the massive sentences of Bernard Gui (again, similar time
and place, some of hte same deponents), again published by CNRS. It's in
their catalogue, but without a price - presumably it will be out by the end
of the year.
Cheers
