Are you required to cost elements of your service?
Develop the necessary know-how in:
Costing and pricing techniques
A one day Library Association workshop on 18 October, in London
More and more organisations are operating under purchaser/ provider or
internal trading arrangements. Market testing, and comparing and
contrasting costs with other providers, is increasingly required in all
sectors. Managers are often required to justify outcomes achieved against
resources used, or to quote prices for the use of their library/information
units' services.
Benefits from attending
This workshop is designed to build participants' confidence and skill in
costing and pricing services. Attendees will learn how to use costing and
pricing techniques to manage a service successfully, including identifying
costs of services, evaluating the difference between cost and price, setting
prices, and identifying the key management issues involved when working
within the purchaser/provider split. The workshop also covers internal
trading, market testing, tendering and Best Value regimes.
By the end of the event participants will have:
* identified ways of breaking down costs and allocating them to
different activities
* calculated hourly rates for charging for professional advice
* compared costs with other providers in an informed way
Who will benefit from attending?
Senior library and information professionals who are required to cost parts
of their services (such as an hourly rate for professional advice, or a cost
per 100 issues) for benchmarking or charging purposes.
Participants should have an awareness of the broader cost issues relating to
service delivery.

service before this"
"Excellent documentation issued during the event, which meant we had clear
notes to take away and use back in the workplace"
