Go to the Bexley Libraries main contents page
<www.bexley.gov.uk/library.html> and look at the "translation" section
at the bottom of the page.
I use WorldLingo for our website, largely because it provides a simple
bit of code to slot in, but I think the IBM site gives better
translations. Enabling people who may speak another language better than
English to get the best out of our websites is of course an important
element of social inclusion.
Note that if you are translating a whole website, it is important that
the links users click on within the site also get translated. Some
translation sites do not provide this facility.
TO OTHER READERS OF THIS REPLY: One of my interests is the writing of
English in a style which the translation engines can cope with without
perpetrating howlers. Combining this requirement with the need to
express oneself well to native English-language speakers is not easy,
and if anyone else is pursuing a like or parallel interest, I should be
pleased to hear from him/her.

Subject: Language Translation
Hi,
Some time ago I stumbled across a web site that offers on-line
translations
on-the-spot and free of charge. The format was such that you could type
in a
paragraph or sentance, hit a button and recieve a translation. I now
have a
reader who needs to use a site like this and cannot seem to find it
again!
The reader has no experiance in tranlations so cannot simply use a
regular
dictionary. I was wondering if anyone in this group knew of or used the
web
site (or similar) and whether they would be willing to provide the
details?
Many Thanks in advance,
Jonathan Sargent.
