Colleagues -
I hesitate to write this both because, as Umberto noted, it represents a
diversion from the mission of this discussion list, and more especially
because it feels presumptuous to speak for my American colleagues. That
being said, it feels like it would be even worse not to acknowlege the
heartfelt expressions of support from Pavel and Umberto, and I know many,
many more of our international colleagues. And I know that in this time of
unimaginable horror and tragedy all Americans do in fact speak with one
voice in saying, "Thank you for your expressions of support; they mean more
than you know." I would just like to express the simple idea that I am so
very grateful for the opportunity that this discussion list affords to
exchange the fruits of out thoughts, but also our universal collegiality in
the pursuit of understanding of the Earth. Would that the whole world
could share in that same spirit of transracial and transnational
collegiality. Alas, a very few, it seems, prefer to huddle in the dark of
ignorance and sharpen the blades of petty, vicious brutality and
inhumanity.
Whether expressed or merely felt in your hearts, thank you again for your
support. I hope colleagues will forgive this brief digression.
