medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
apologies for x-posting!
Call for Panelists
1. "Where We are Now: Professional Issues"
2. "Where We are Now: Critical Theory and Medieval Studies"
Last year's two panels on "where we are now" generated much provocative and
informative discussion. We'd like to follow up and also expand on the
conversations begun last year.
1. "Professional Issues":
10 minute papers on any aspect of doing medieval studies at the present
time. Some potential topics could include: academic politics,
interdisciplinarity, periodization, and the relevance/accessibility of our
work to non-medievalists--no topic is off limits!
2. "Critical Theory and Medieval Studies":
10 minute papers on an intersection between critical theories and medieval
studies. Some potential topics might include: the representation of the
Middle Ages by a particular theorist or critical tradition (e.g., Lacan,
feminism, or cultural studies), the current status of critical theory, and
underappreciated theoretical approaches.
Please send 100 word abstracts by Sept. 15th (earlier inquiries welcome) to:
Anne Clark Bartlett ([log in to unmask]) or Richard K. Emmerson
([log in to unmask]).
Be sure to note that K'zoo participants *are* allowed both to give a
20-minute paper and to participate in a roundtable session.
Thanks!
