I looked at the ingredients list of our 'plain liquid hand soap'[1] and
found a very long list if substances, some of which I would not choose
to use in a wound.
I used to like Hibisol or whatever for its detergent action but this
seems to have been 'outlawed' in most of the departments where I have
worked. Nowadays I tend to use saline on a gauze swab and tend to rub
HARD if the wound looks really dirty. Nobody (yet) audits how hard I rub
or how harmful this might be to the tissues.
[1] Our unit uses Mölnycke. I treated a friend's cut with the stuff and
it hurt like hell. I think it's rather too alkaline.
