Scope, a national (England and Wales, UK) disability organisation whose focus is people with cerebral palsy have produced a new report on 'Ethnicity and Disability - The case for embracing Black disability issues'.
The purpose of this 'new' report is:
to state the case for the need to focus on Black disability issues;
to identify a range of potential strategies for action;
to suggest local and national recommendations.
It highlights the little literature that exists on this subject of race and disability provides a near unanimous perspective that ethnic minority people experience the same levels of disability and impairment as the rest of the population. In addition, research also suggests that for ethnic minority communities awareness of what services are available is much lower and take-up of those services is lower still.
