>Nor can it make up for the disproportionately high unemployment rate
among disabled individuals....For example, it is up to us to highlight
"issues of conscience" so that they
help shape public opinion and foster change. We can accomplish that by
hiring and promoting people with disabilities
I'm interested in hearing how other educational institutions are preparing
Students with disabilities to enter the employment world after graduation.
And also, what people have found/experienced--why do we have such a high
unemployment rate? Beyond discrimination, lack of expectations from ABs and
lack of accessability, I find PWDs don't expect other PWDs to work and that
being paid for doing what one loves isn't a high priority on the "disability
agenda".
