medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Re: the prevalence of labyrinths:
I've seen a little one --- maybe 6 or 8 inches in diameter --- inscribed on
a pillar on the outside porch of a church in Lucca --- sorry, but I don't
remember which edifice. It attracted my interest mainly because it seemed
like a graffito. There was a partly degraded, messy Latin inscription next
to it, stating the name of the inscriber and (if I recall correctly) his
purpose in making it. I didn't spend much time trying to read it, however,
as I was only there for an afternoon. I should remember to add unlined
paper and a rubbing pencil to my travel kit for such occasions.
