Cat and class: it's OK for anyone!
A two day workshop on 12 & 13 June, in London
OK or organisation of knowledge is central to the effective functioning of
any information service.
The established skills developed within librarianship provide both effective
systems for this process, and also the conceptual tools for developing and
tailoring in house approaches appropriate for an organisation.
Benefits from attending
This workshop provides a basic introduction to the skills of information
organisation in the context of library and information services and a broad
based framework built from principles and practice that participants can
take away and develop in their own organisational context.
Special notes
The workshop content is informed by the major international standards which
are used for knowledge organisation in libraries, including the
Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, Dewey Decimal Classification and MARC
format for computerised cataloguing and thesaurus. These tools are used in
the workshop exercises. This allows participants to develop a basic
understanding of the principles involved, which will then inform their
approach to information organisation back in the workplace.
Who will benefit from attending?
This workshop is ideal for information workers who are new to this area.
