The Medical Research Council has awarded a PhD studentship to the
Housing and Neighbourhood and Health collaboration at the University
of Wales College of Medicine and Cardiff University.

This prestigious studentship will be directed at researching the
health effects of the built environment at the population level,
including the effects of indoor air quality on asthma and
cardiovascular disease. The Department of Epidemiology, Statistics
and Public Health which is one of the UK's oldest and largest
academic departments of Public Health will provide supervision and
research training.

The department is seeking to develop the research team already active
in this area in order to progress research into the built environment
over the years ahead.
We are keen to attract the best candidates and therefore applicants
will be considered from a number of backgrounds with a first degree
with transferable knowledge and skills. The basic annual maintenance
stipends for all MRC studentships are £7,450 - £8,350 p.a. The
Department of Epidemiology is offering an additional bursary to cover
the costs of relocation.
The tenure of the studentship will be for 3 years from 1 October
2001. There is a possibility of future post-doctoral work with the
Group as the HANAH research initiative develops.
