Senior Research Officer / Fellow
This post is available for a fixed term of 30 months to join a research
project funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) as part of
its Innovative Health Technologies Programme. The project aims to compare
the attitudes of different social and ethnic groups to prenatal testing for
a range of conditions, and to compare the reasons people give for
similarities and differences in their attitudes. To achieve these aims,
quantitative attitude data to prenatal testing for a range of disorders will
be collected from several hundred women who have recently had a baby, and
qualitative data to expand on people's reasons for their beliefs will be
collected from a subsample of these women, and from people attending genetic
services.
You should have a PhD in a relevant subject (e.g. psychology, nursing or
health sciences) and two to three years of postdoctoral experience in health
care settings with experience of successfully supervising the work of more
junior research staff and support staff (in exceptional circumstances a
strong research record would be acceptable in lieu of a PhD). Effective
interviewing skills, and an ability to discuss sensitive topics with staff
and health service users are essential, as is familiarity with handling
qualitative and quantitative data. Experience of working with people from
various ethnic backgrounds is desirable.
Job share applicants will be considered.
Salary: Research scale RII (£23,256 to £27,222) depending on qualifications
and experience.
Interviews will be held on Monday 9th April.
