medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

And how! I'm linguistically challenged, so to speak, myself.
For Gervaise try
Joseph STEVENSON: The History of King Henry the First ......The history of
the Archbishops of Canterbury by Gervaise, monk of Canterbury .....
translated from the original Latin by Joseph Stevenson. London: Seeleys,
1858. (The Church Historians of England, pre-Reformation series, vol. 5,
part 1)
There were umpteen good (for their day and not bad now if a bit stilted and
prissy) translations made by the High Church Anglican clerics of the Oxford
Movement. Good Latinist to a man. Jos. Stevenson did a lot in this series
including Robert de Monte's Chronicle and revising Sharpe's trans of Will.
of Malmesbury's Gesta regum anglorum.
Any good history / theological library ought to have the full set of The
Church Historians of England, but they may not have indexed the texts when
'two or three' or more are published together.
Good hunting,
Brenda M.C.
