We've got copies of Discoverware's "Discover PC Basics" on open learning PCs
at a couple of libraries. That seems reasonably popular. We really liked
Greystone Publishing's "Winskills", which does precisely what you need, but
we're told that's no longer available.
If you've still got old copies of BBC's "Computers Don't Bite" they'll do
the trick, too. We put them on our open learning PCs when the BBC did their
campaign and never bothered taking them off because customers liked them.
The version with the Wallace and Gromit Train Game is the one that's most
popular and useful (the game's an excellent way of learning drag-and-drop).
I once accidentally disrupted an Age Concern transport schedule by
persuading an elderly lady that she really wasn't scared of computers using
this CD-ROM. She and her friends got really into the train game (think of
the noisiest group of kids you've had in the library and you'll have an
idea) and would only stop playing when the driver threatened to drive off
without them! On second thoughts, if you do get hold of a copy of this
CD-ROM and decide to use it, you may want to put an age limit on its use.
