British Universities German Drama Festival
19 - 23 March 2001
Venue: Queen Elizabeth Hospital Theatre, Jacob's Wells Road,
Bristol BS8 1JX
This annual event, sponsored by the German Embassy (and this
year with the generous support from the Bristol University Alumni
Foundation), will be held for the first time ever in the South West or
Wales. It aims to bring together a rich mixture of dramatic
productions, all presented in German, by universities across Britain,
and this year includes a special guest appearance by a university
from Dublin also. Each participating university gives one
performance during the week.
Mon 19 March: Brecht, Der Kaukasische Kreidekreis, Bristol
University
Tue 20 March: Turrini, Sauschlachten, Sheffield University
A modern Austrian play on the theme of human identity.
Wed 21 March: Wedekind, Frühlings Erwachen, Nottingham
University
One of the most famous, and for its day daring explorations of
adolescence and awakening sexuality in a repressive society.
Thurs 22 March: Fassbinder, Die bitteren Tränen der Petra von
Kant, King's College, London
Very well known as a film, this is the theatre version by one of
Germany's most provocative twentieth-century playwrights.
Mon 23 March: Brecht, Mann ist Mann, University College, Dublin
