Dear all,
Before ending my contribution to an article dealing with a hyaena (Hyaena
hyaena) found in a byzantine funeral context, I wondered if anyone heard
about such an association (except canines used as ornements). I found one
mention of an animal inhumation studied by Boessneck (1981) comprising a
hyaena's skull associated with a dog's skull but then again it is not a
human burial but an animal one; besides it was found in archaïc period
context in Egypt wich is pretty far from the Byzantine period.
Any mention of Hyaena's symbolic value or related subjects (wild animal
inhumations along human ones) are welcome.
Thanks
