Does anyone have a contact for Tove Hatting? I have a
feeling last time I tried to contact her I was told she had
retired, though I may be wrong...
Carnivores, I am sure louise martin has been working on a
site where dog eating was occurring in the middle east,
somewhere by beach/on an island (its funny what sticks in
your mind - sorry can't remember the details shall ask
louise at the weekend). I do remember the dog eating
clearly as her results had caused some consternation - the
dogs were scorched, butchered and found in the hearth, or
something as unequicoval as that.
Finally whilst doing my phd a chap from the council
came in to the sheffield department with a bone for us to
identify - it had been found in a chicken takeaway and they
thought it was human - but no - it was only a dog third
phalanx. And yes it happened to me, not a friend of mine.
Chap wouldn't tell us the resturant though.
My grandfather was a masterbutcher (bones run in
the family), and my mother was embassed at a lord mayors
dinner when my grandfather leapt to his feet pronouncing
the chicken to be rabbit!
So species substitution/carnivore consumption has a long
and living history.
