I suspect that the place you are looking for is Llansannfraid. There are
a number of places of that name in Wales, but they usually have a second
element by which they are generally known. For example, Llansannfraid
Glynceiriog in Denbighshire is generally called Glynceiriog. The most
likely candidate is Llansanffraid Glynceiriog in Montgomeryshire (about
seven miles SW of Oswestry), which is generally called just
Llansannfraid.
I'm afraid that I cannot identify the John Davies. Davies's were
probably thick on the ground in that area. There might be a connection
with D C Davies, who came from the Oswestry area. He is in the
Dictionary of National Biography, but I do not have a copy to hand to
look up his parentage.
