I have taken advice from the Medical defence union about consent for
synacthen tests.
They ask me to ask my peers how risky that test is and what process of consent
you employ for a synacthen test (if any)
I am concerned at the dilemma raised by a very low risk of a very serious
problem (anaphylactic reaction).
the days when one could simply avoid mentioning this risk (?1 in 100,00 or
whatever) just because it is less than a one percent risk are definitely over
- but it seems inappropriate to mention this casually with syringe poised over
patient.
does anyone KNOW what the risk is (in the UK) and what do others do w]
before carrying out a synacthen test?
