Many thanks to all of you who have identified my puzzle as being the
dermal denticles of a ray (probably thornback).
I failed to put the dimensions on the web-page
(http://www.biols.susx.ac.uk/home/Liz_Somerville/puzzle.htm)
which I will update as soon as I can.
The smallest (LHS) has a max length of 1.18cm; max width (orthogonal
to length) of 1.00cm and a max thickness (not including the "tooth")
of 0.45cm.
The largest (middle of the picture) has a max length of 2.00cm; max
width (orthogonal to length) of 1.80cm and a max thickness (not
including the "tooth") of 1.03cm.
The one with ribbing (RHS) has a max length of 1.88cm; max width
(orthogonal to length) of 1.44cm and a max thickness of 0.74cm.
I would like to pester those of you who have met these dermal
denticles with a further quetion - could these all have come from one
individual?
Many thanks
Liz
