My museum is updating its catalogue and has lots of
material marked as bos longifrons and frontosis (from swiss
neolithic sites I think). They now wish to use the
approriate names but want to know what this is.
Does anyone have any good sources of info on the history of
theses names and when they went out of usage.
Our curator needs to relabel them and is keen to do this
without actually looking at the bones if possible - did
people only called longifrons stuff that definately wasn't
auroch but was bos from archaeological sites? And
frontosis? I have a feeling the stuff should be
reexamined, what does everyone else think.
