Does anyone have experience of staff webpages within HE websites and their
pros and cons?
One of the reasons for this move is to combat the growing area of academic
staff with external websites that are out of the institutions control as
staff are placing material on freeserve accounts that are impossible to
police.
I have suggested that if staff are allowed to have their own space that it
is purely for the use of promoting their work within the organisation, for
example research and publications and not for the purpose of showing the
world their holiday snaps, hobbies, cats, cake making abilities etc.
I know that some Universities display a disclaimer to distance themselves
from this content and allow staff to have free reign within reason, but what
is acceptable use? I seem to be going down the route of 'would we allow this
to happen in print?' and the answer is probably not!
