Also, you can sell a book to the SU's second-hand bookshop when you
are done with it, or get a copy from the library to take home for a
while. Most software licences (and you only license the software, not
buy it) prohibit such activities as "piracy".
I've haven't specifically checked for this post, but my memory is that
Microsoft licences permit re-sale (technically, I suppose, re-licencing)
provided that no copies of the software or manuals are retained.
Obviously copying is still outlawed - though note that many programs allow
installation on both a desktop and laptop, provided that both are not used
at the same time.
