Andrew Dilnot's Beveridge lecture to the RSS asked a statistically
sophisticated audience 4 questions;
1. Married cpl, no kids. What joint net income is required to put them in
the top 10%? £30,000, £50,000, £70,000, £90,000 or £110,000?
2. Ditto in bottom 10%
£3000, £5000, £7000, £9,000, £11,000?
3. What proportion of all income tax is contributed by the top 1% of
(gross) earners?
3%, 5%, 7%, 9%, 11%?
4. What proportion of the target group for Stakeholder Pensions (earnings
from £10,000-£20,000 roughly) has no private pension cover at present?
Dont send me your answers!
Relative to Dilnot's answers (which I'll post tomorrow), the RSS audience
votes on questions 1-3 showed a tendency to overestimate income inequality.
Few got question 4 right (I was close).
