I was deliberately waiting until we had reports from the Troika on last
Saturday's AGM before saying anthing about the change of listowner.
I agreed to stand as I felt that the list was losing its usefulness as a
way of communicating with Radical Statistics subscribers and other
interested and likeminded people about news, ideas, activities and
possible projects because it had become dominated by a small number of
people who wanted to hold more detailed discussions. Many people had
said to me and others that they don't have time to read these messages.
While some have deleted them unread, others have suspended themseves
from the list or left it. I don't want to see radstats become like
allstat with no discussion, but I do want to see discussions become more
succinct. I hope that people will voluntarily make their contributions
shorter in the interests of encouraging people to read them!
At the same time, I don't want to inhibit the people who have the time
and inclination for more detailed discussions and think we should make
provision for this, perhaps on a separate list. I hope the Troika will
invite suggestions about how to do this and then consult with everyone.
Meanwhile, it would be helpful if people wanting more detailed
discussion could have it among themselves and then perhaps circulate a
summary to the list.
There will be a slight delay in the changeover, as I am moving to a new
job and therefore changing email address.
