That is true about Mercury, even hat workers in the
1800's, went quite mad from using mercury as solvent
to soften hat materials on the rims. If you all
remember the mad hatter from Allison and Wonderland,
it was theoried he went mad from mercury poisoning.

Mercury was one of the first banned chemicals during
the industrial revolution. Due to the madness it
brought to the people's lives, particularly the
hatters
who used to dunk the material with their hands.
