Dear All and thanks Jim for pointing out the Grey paper.
I find it all very acceptable.
One further thought occurrs though which, until I reread it, I do not think
he makes in this way . He quotes Rodman thus. "one ought not treat with
disrespect or use as a mere means anything that has a telos, or end in its
own,....." . Being hardline for a moment, I thought why not? Why shouldn't
we? If we look at nature (without us) we see it busilly disrepecting
itself. From grazers to predatory carnivores, disrespecting, maiming and
killing is are natural processes. If we choose to disassociate ourselves
from these natural processes (and that may be desirable, I am not judging
here) then we are making a choice about what it is to be human. What could
be more anthropocentric than choosing what it is to be human.
kind regards
Paul K
