Dear colleagues
To follow on from the debate about interpretation of
biochemical results, we practitioners in the clinical
chemistry field have unique experience and unsurpassed
alertness when confronted with a set of biochemistry
result that no other specialist outside our field can
match. We have an in depth knowledge of applying
clinical biochemistry to various clinical scenarios,
we have good understanding of the biochemical tests
performance, limitations and decision limits, we are
exposed daily to vast amount of biochemical data
covering almost all aspects of clinical practice. This
generate expertise inside us that can not be
paralleled by others and make us a unique professional
group that can help in the timely management of
patients. A patient with hypercalcaemia in an
orthopaedic ward have a better chance of being
correctly investigated and treated if a chemical
pathology input is timely introduced by our
profession. There are countless number of such
examples in every day practice that we should be proud
of. The stream of interesting cases presented on this
list is a testament to our lively specialty.
regards
Mohammad
