It is a common feature in any depiction of the Last Judgement. Do not
forget the monumental example of the interior west wall of Torcello (and
many others of this kind where the lower portions of the mosaic most
fresco are not lost); or the tympanon in Bamberg cathedral (13 th c.);
and examples down to village churches or even country churches without a
village, as St. Caecilia ob Murau in remote Styria (14th c.).
