Do you deal with enquiries from SMEs? Then you can't afford to miss:
Subject guide to the Internet: sources of support for SMEs
A one day Library Association workshop on 31 January, in London
The World Wide Web is an impressive source of information. No search for
information is now complete without at least a broad sweep of the Web. The
sheer volume of information can be overwhelming and the lack of precision
can be disappointing. But there are approaches that can be adopted in order
to carry out an effective search.
Which sources are most authoritative, most up to date, easiest to use or
most complete? Such questions are important to the busy information
professional who has the responsibility to provide an efficient and
effective information service. This subject guide workshop will address
such issues and participants will be encouraged to discuss the sources and
add their own favourites where appropriate.
By the end of the event participants will have:
* explored the key internet resources for small and medium
sized enterprises (SMEs)
* searched key sites through a "hands on" case study approach
* discussed the range and quality of the sources
Who will benefit from attending?
This workshop will be of interest to all those responsible for answering
enquiries from SMEs in libraries or other information units. The day will
outline sources in business advice and support, free tools and techniques,
and the full range of business opportunity sites from seeking suppliers to
finding customers.
Basic keyboarding skills are required and participants do need to have some
experience of using the Internet. This workshop will be very practical,
based around seven personal computers with the number of participants being
restricted to 14 to allow plenty of opportunities to search sources.
