Calling all librarians, booksellers and publishers who may read this.
Your help is requested for a research project - details as follows:
Promoting books and reading: tell us your stories
What's going on?
A research project entitled "The promotion of books and reading: libraries,
booksellers and publishers working together" has just started. The aim of
this project is to produce guidance to encourage sustainable partnerships
between libraries, booksellers, library suppliers and publishers across the
UK which promote reading and books to adults and children.
The research is funded by the BNB Research Fund and is being undertaken by
a team at the Centre for Information Research at the University of Central
England in Birmingham from September 2000 to April 2001.
What do we do?
We would like you to tell us about collaborative reading promotion projects
which have happened recently or are ongoing, some of which will be chosen
as case studies to inform our research. We would like to hear about joint
reading promotion ventures all over the UK between any combination of the
three sectors - public librarians, booksellers and publishers. We
particularly want to know about small-scale activities, which have helped
(or failed to help) you meet your objectives. Please tell us about both
adults' and children's promotions. Although we will not be able to use all
projects as case studies, we will nevertheless need to know about a large
number in order to describe the range of activity in this important area.
Confidentiality will be preserved.
What's in it for us?
The outcome will be practical guidance for all three sectors on exploiting
opportunities already available, and handy tips on getting started in
collaborative ventures which meet the objectives of both commercial and
public service interests.
Please email, phone or fax in the first instance with brief details of your
project(s) to:

I would be most grateful if you could either contact me directly or pass me
the name of an appropriate person to contact or forward this email to them.
Thank you for your time in reading this. I look forward to hearing from
you.
