Phil,
from what I heard from Aileen (who was also there at the conference), they
had a massive question and answer at the end. A chiropracter asked Gwen
whether she thought TA atrophy was a result or a cause of back pain. Gwen
naturally stated that it caused back pain, but had no research to back it
up. In the end, Gwen basically had to settle with the fact that TA could be
the result of back pain. But I guess it is the old argument of the chicken
or the egg. Look, it is the logical question anybody would ask, and not just
MD's and chiro's (some MD's and chiro's are also interested in muscle work).
Personally, I don't really think it is such a big issue whether TA is the
cause or the result - the important thing is that TA is weak in the majority
of back pain patients, and it is something that we must treat also.
